Wantirna Estate Amelia Cabernet Merlot

A significant portion of this wine is drawn from the heritage 1963 plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, complemented by Petit Verdot from newer vines planted in 1989. While the precise blend varies each vintage due to fruit set and yield, it typically consists of approximately 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc and Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. The introduction of Petit Verdot in the 1990s brought added structure, with firm tannins and vibrant natural acidity. As the last to ripen, these grapes are hand-harvested in mid-April, completing the blend with finesse and depth.

Crafted exclusively from dry-farmed vines, the roots delve deep into clay soils, extracting moisture and nutrients essential for creating a wine of remarkable intensity and elegance. The vine age further enhances concentration, delivering a wine that is both approachable in its youth and capable of graceful aging for over 15 years.
