About This Wine:

The first wine crafted at Picardy was the 1996 Pinot Noir. Picardy’s Pinots are known for their finesse and complexity, drawing inspiration from the great Old World Pinot Noirs.

With outstanding fruit intensity, balanced acidity, and fine-grained tannins, these wines promise longevity and exceptional bottle development, while still being invitingly approachable in their youth. Since that first vintage in 1996, new clonal plantings and the maturing vines have elevated the wines’ texture, structure, and depth. Picardy Pinot Noir is now composed of 11 clones: a mix of traditional upright and droopy Australian clones, alongside selections 114, 115, and 777 from the University of Dijon, and six prized clones imported from Burgundy. After 21 years of careful planning and quarantine, these final clones were introduced to Picardy in 2011, marking a significant milestone in their pursuit of perfection.

Delicately floral with vibrant notes of red fruits—think raspberries, strawberry compote, and classic sour cherries—this Pinot leans more toward Old World elegance than New World boldness.

Nestled between two more robust vintages, this year’s Estate Pinot exudes an understated, refined beauty. While it may not be the boldest artwork in the gallery, its subtle complexity and elegance will captivate your attention the longest.
