Iggy H&C Eden Valley Syrah

A short drive from Eden Valley township toward Keyneton, halfway up the hill at around 400 meters elevation, lies an idyllic east-facing vineyard nestled among ironstone rocks and granite monoliths of varying sizes. Planted in 1998 by Mick Hearnden (H), this site immediately impressed Igor when he first tasted the fruit, recognizing it as the perfect complement to the flavour profile of the Ciccocioppo (C) grapes, which had already shown outstanding quality in 2020. Both blocks thrive in this rugged terrain, with shallow loamy soil ranging from gravelly to rocky, providing a mineral-rich foundation that enhances the aromatics, flavor, and structure of the finished wine.

The 'C' parcel underwent 100% whole-bunch vinification—partly inspired by Rhône Valley traditions, partly a spontaneous, pragmatic choice. Fermentation was gentle, with only two plunges per day, while the 'H' parcel received a few pump-overs at its peak. After pressing, both wines matured separately in seasoned French oak barriques until blending and bottling.
