Gembrook Hill Yarra Valley Chardonnay

The Gembrook Hill Chardonnay is not available every year. Winemakers Andrew Marks and Timo Mayer frequently make a vintage Blanc de Blanc with the estate grown Chardonnay. When they do release a table wine, it's always very, very good. It is extremely limited.  Straight up, we notice excellent fruit intensity with a hint of cracked wheat. This has it all: style, length, poise, and complexity. The texture is silky, but the notes of green apple, nectarine, citrous, and fennel give it a raciness, an edge. The oak flavour has a hint of custard powder to it, but oak isn't a major player in the wine. It goes without saying that this is stunning work. It embodies elegance, but it also possesses power.
