About This Wine:

Chateau du Cedre stands as the benchmark estate in Cahors, a region synonymous with exceptional Malbec. Brothers Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe, both esteemed oenologists, continue a family legacy that dates back to their grandfather Léon, who left his native Flanders to settle in south-west France in the early 1900s. Their father, Charles, and mother, Marie-Thérèse, laid the groundwork for the estate in 1958, gradually planting vineyards alongside their mixed farm.

This wine is crafted from 100% Malbec, sourced from trusted growers on the first and second terraces along the river. The fruit is meticulously de-stemmed and crushed, with a cold soak for 3–4 days to enhance colour and gently extract tannins. A cool fermentation in stainless steel preserves freshness, followed by maturation in concrete tanks for 6–8 months, allowing the wine to retain purity and vibrancy.

Elegant and expressive, this Malbec highlights the variety’s more delicate and juicy side. Bright red berry fruit takes centre stage, supported by refreshing acidity and a supple, silky texture. Without the firm tannins often associated with Cahors, it offers an effortlessly drinkable style—perfectly suited for enjoyment this winter.
