Jonata pays homage to the 1845 Spanish land grant, Rancho San Carlos de Jonata, which once covered much of the Santa Ynez Valley. Today, Jonata stands at the heart of this historic land. The name Jonata, borrowed by the first pioneers from the local Chumash language, means “tall oak.”
Located within the greater Santa Ynez Valley appellation, the Ballard Canyon AVA is one of California’s Central Coast's most notable emerging locations. Jonata’s sandy site, combined with the team's winegrowing expertise, has produced results that are widely recognized as the finest from this region.
Heady and perfumed, this wine captivates with an intoxicating nose of ripe black fruit, almond brioche, and violets. Hints of new leather, cracked peppercorns, blackberry preserves, and espresso beans add to its allure. The palate is saturated with generous and luxurious fruit, showcasing a wine of remarkable breadth and power with a truly silky texture. It remains buoyant and lively through the finish. To my palate, this is the most complete and compelling Fenix to date.
Blend: 40% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot.
